CRUFTS 2021 MOVED TO JULY

Crufts have announced that the 2021 show will - pandemic permitting - still go ahead but has been moved out to the 15th - 18th July. There will be changes to the qualification rules though: there won't be any puppy classes and whilst dogs who qualified for the 2020 show will mostly be eligible for 2021, dogs that qualified by dint of a 3rd place won't be eligible. Additionally, numbers will be capped for the more popular breeds and classes.

We're waiting for full details but while this certainly won't feel like the usual Crufts, it is at least a step back to normality. You can find more information on the Crufts web site: https://www.crufts.org.uk

BREED APPRECIATION DAY MOVED FROM NOVEMBER 2020 TO 1st AUGUST 2021 - NEW VENUE, TOO

Due to the uncertainties created by Covid19 and the current restrictions on travel to and from abroad, the PPCGB and The Northern Portuguese Podengo Association have decided to postpone, again, the BAD that was planned for the 15th November 2020.

As the regulations stand at present, our guests Gabriela and Vitor Veiga would have to quarantine for two weeks prior to this date, which is not an option for them. With regulations appearing to be strengthening rather than relaxing, we hope that travel restrictions will be largely removed by next year. We are very sorry to have to reschedule this event yet again but are sure you will appreciate that the safety and good health of all involved is the most important thing.

The new date for this event is the 1st August 2021 in a new venue: Yelvertoft Village Hall, Lilbourne Road, Yelvertoft, Northants NN6 6LJ.

Rob Dunning of the NPPA has written to all attendees to confirm the new arrangements but if you are interested in attending, which costs £15 per person, please contact Diana Curtis (Breed Education Co-ordinator) at: [email protected]

For and on behalf of the joint committees,

The Portuguese Podengo Club of Great Britain and The Northern Portuguese Podengo Association.

PEGGY GRAYSON, 1919 - 2020

We are very sad to announce the death of our President, Peggy Grayson. A huge figure in the dog world, she published several books on judging and various breeds and will be much missed. She was an active supporter of our breed and helped establish it in the UK. Our sympathy goes to her family and friends.

CLUB SHOW CANCELLED

With regret, the Officers and Committee of The Portuguese Podengo Club of Great Britain announce the cancellation of this year’s Club Open Show scheduled for 17th October 2020. This is due to the continued restrictions arising from the Covid-19 pandemic and current Government advice against staging large public gatherings such as indoor exhibitions. At present, there is no prospect of these restrictions being lifted in the timescale required to organize the event.

The Portuguese Podengo Club of Great Britain takes the health, safety and security of everyone who takes part in its events very seriously and this must remain the prime consideration at all times. We shall look forward to welcoming you all to next year to our Open Show due to be held - all being well - on the 17th April 2021.

BREED APPRECIATION DAY @ BEARLEY, 15TH NOVEMBER - RESCHEDULED - SEE ABOVE

All things permitting, we're planning to hold the Breed Appreciation Day (BAD) and Seminar on 15 November at Bearley Village Hall, Snitterfield Road, Bearley, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire CV37 0SR. As before, the day is being run in collaboration with the Northern Portuguese Podengo Association and we thank them for all their work on this. We're delighted that Gabriela Veiga from Portugal will still be coming over to present the day. Gabriela is an international judge and a very accomplished speaker on the breed standard and all things Podengo.

Anyone who is interested in the Podengo is welcome to come along, look, listen and learn from a true expert. The BAD will be held according to Kennel Club Rules and Regulations:

Attendance costs from £15 per person and application forms can be obtained from Diana Curtis (Breed Education Co-ordinator) at: [email protected]

AGM CANCELLED

Because of the ongoing situation with the COVID-19 virus, the AGM planned for April 18th has been cancelled. We will update you on the new arrangements when the current situation becomes clearer.

In the meantime, may we wish everyone the best of health and hope you are all coping with the current restrictions.

One way you can forget the current problems and keep cheerful is to visit our Facebook page, post pictures of what you and your pods are doing and join in the debate. See the link on our homepage.

BREED APPRECIATION DAY @ BRETFORD, 5TH APRIL - RESCHEDULED - SEE ABOVE

It is with regret and disappointment that due to the ongoing situation with the COVID-19 virus plus travel restrictions faced by the Speaker, the committees of both the NPPA and the PPCGB have come to a decision to postpone the planned Breed Appreciation Day until later in the year.

This decision was not taken lightly, but it was agreed that in order to maintain the same Speaker from Portugal and with the possibility of enforced cancellation of events highly likely it was best to postpone.

All candidates who have already booked will of course be kept up to date and have their place guaranteed on the revised date once this has been arranged.

The Officers and committees of the NPPA and the PPCGB wish to extend their sincerest apologies and hope you can understand and accept the difficult situation.
